During testing, a key challenge emerged: the capacitor’s position within the pack design conflicted with the customer’s assembly process, requiring a redesign to enable seamless integration.
Solution
PKCELL’s engineering team quickly responded to the customer’s request. Within a short period, three customized battery pack solutions were developed using the combination of ER14505 4800mAh 3.6V and LIC1020.

Case Study 2:ER18505 + HPC Hybrid Battery Solution for IoT Devices
Background / Challenge
The customer is an IoT device manufacturer in Canada, developing equipment that requires a long-life and stable power supply under low-current operation.
In 2024, the customer requested ER18505M samples for initial evaluation. After the sampling stage, communication paused for an extended period with no feedback. When testing resumed in March 2025, results showed acceptable overall performance. However, battery passivation was observed during testing, which raised concerns about pulse current capability and device start-up stability.
In addition, the customer had high waterproof performance requirements for the battery connector, adding another layer of complexity to the project. The challenge was to solve passivation issues, improve pulse performance, and meet waterproof requirements—without significantly increasing cost.
Solution
After an in-depth discussion with the customer and internal engineering review, PKCELL recommended upgrading the solution to a hybrid battery pack combining ER18505 and HPC1520 (Hybrid Pulse Capacitor).
This upgraded solution effectively:

The customer conducted a second round of testing using the ER18505 + HPC1520 battery pack, and the test feedback was Approved.
To address the waterproof requirement, PKCELL’s engineering team evaluated multiple connector options and successfully selected a cost-effective waterproof connector that fully met the application needs.
Thanks to fast response and proactive technical support, all customer concerns were resolved, leading to a final order confirmation of 10,200 battery packs.
